HISTORY
Strengthened By the Railway
Orland Park, IL was first settled in the mid-1800s, but it wasn’t until John Humprhey called the area home and the commuter railroad was introduced that Orland Park truly began to grow.
The railroad allowed for easier passage between Chicago and Orland Park, bringing in more people and business, while John Humprhey purchased a large plot of land and devoted himself to the community – eventually being elected to the state house of representatives in 1870.
Today, you can still find the railroad in the city, surrounded by some of the original neighborhoods, and John Humphryes home is managed by the Orland Historical Society.
